A nine-count indictment was unsealed today against the former Assistant Director of the (former) INS’s Detroit Field Office, Roy Bailey, who later became chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Detention and Removal Operations for the Detroit region. The indictment alleges that Mr. Bailey, 54, of the Dearborn area, accepted tens of thousands of dollars in bribes and favors for releasing detained individuals who had been ordered deported; he also faces charges he allowed aliens to fraudulently enter the USA in return for bribes, smuggled a firearm into the country, he provided false documentation used as part of a marriage fraud conspiracy and more. Two other local residents face charges for their roles in the conspiracy. The Detroit Free Press has comprehensive coverage.
